This tiller is sold under a few different names, but they are all the same. One is sold as earthquake, one as ardisam, and one as huskee from tractor supply, which is the one I have. They are all made by the same company. Mine has the 6.75 model engine on it, and has been on sale for the last several weeks for only $360.00. Breaking ground with it is a little rough on the arms, but it never seemed to mind. It has a serviceable transmission, which alot of the others do not have. It is well worth the money compared to a rear tine, but is a bit more work to handle. I recommend this tiller, but check at tractor supply for a cheaper version of the EXACT SAME TILLER!

Had this item for over 1 year. Works fine except the bump and go head. After a short while it won't release new string. Find the nut is locked (frozen in place). In the past I have successfully used two pipe wrenches to unlock it. Not this time. Took it to a shop and they replaced the nut/bolt assembly. Worked about 20 minutes and it is now frozen solid again.
If you get this make sure you have LOCAL support to handle warranty issues!
My last ryobi trimmer lasted 12 years. This one is less than satisfactory.

Yard Machines 158cc Briggs and Stratton 500 Series Gas Powered Steel Tine Tiller 21A-250M000
Average Reviews:

See the reviews others have posted for the 31cc model - wish I had seen these before I bought this as those reviews seem indicative of bigger quality issues at Yard Machines which also seem to be sold under Sears Craftsman brand. As others noted with the smaller model, I had issues out of the box with the pull start. Used the tiller just 3 times before the pull start broke - took it apart and found cheap/plastic/flimsy parts. But tiller was still under warranty so took it to one of their shops to do the repair. 5 months later and still waiting for the part. When it worked, the tiller did the job but couple cautions:
1) with just the one support wheel in front, the tiller kicks side to side and is very hard to balance so you'd better be very big, fit, and strong to handle it because you are going to get a workout.
2) if it leans too much, oil leaks and very difficult to start/run until it burns it all out in great clouds of smoke.
Got this onsale for 279 which is a lot less than listed here and would avoid paying more based on Yard machine quality problems.

Garden Weasel Review

Garden Weasel

I am probably taking my life in my hands by reviewing this item and angering the millions of Garden Weasle's fans, but it just doesn't do it for me. The only way this works in maintenance mode is if the soil has been tilled at the beginning of the planting season and virtually pulverized. If you work your soil and ammend it with add'l peat and topsoil this works o.k. Unfortunately, I don't do anything that labor intensive in spring and usually have a hard time using this. It is an enormous physical struggle to work this contraption through the garden. I suspect that anyone who works their soil before planting will find this does a satisfatory job. I unfortunately probably don't do as much prep-work as I should and find the results lackluster at best.

BCS Tiller Tractor 732 340CC Honda #8C1V0580 Review

BCS Tiller Tractor 732 340CC Honda #8C1V0580
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While I don't personally own this tiller, I too have rented it on several occasions for use as a tiller. I have no experience with the other attachments. This tiller is a beast to be sure, but I've never experienced any "runaway" problems with it. This is largely due to the fact that it's a gear driven machine and "running away" is virtually impossible. It has two speeds and neither will make you trot.
The tiller has a selectable differential drive allowing for very easy turns at the ends of rows, or locked in for better traction in the mud. Nice feature. It does a fantastic job cutting through sod and even cutting a new row, I rarely have to till the row more than twice to get the soil where I want it. I use this for the heavy work and a little Honda FG110 for weeding and maintanence.
The BCS is a rock-solid performer and pretty nearly indestructable . There's a reason equipment rental businesses rent these out to the general public, after all. My only peeve with them are their prices, both initially and later when you buy add-ons. True, because it's a multi-usage system you'll save money in the long run over buying single purpose machines if you collect the add-ons, but the initial price is still a jaw-dropper.
All things considered this is a superb machine and I highly recommend it to anyone doing some serious tilling.

Troy-Bilt Pony 6.5 HP Rear Tine Tiller 21A-663L066 Review

Troy-Bilt Pony 6.5 HP Rear Tine Tiller 21A-663L066
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased one of these from Amazon last year and I have now used it for two planting seasons.
In its favor, I would say that it has been strong, powerful and reliable; the engine starts easily and works well at low RPM, which is often necessary because (unlike earlier Troy-Bilts) the tiller has but one transmission speed. It does a fine job of tilling dirt and light sod if tilled gradually in deeper successive passes.
Against it are the awful control ergonomics, which I assume were designed by attorneys or some other species of non-user. Using the tiller controls is still unintuitive and downright dangerous for the inexperienced owner, especially if working in smaller gardens -- for which this tiller is unsuited, if for no other reason than the poorly designed reversing mechanism that makes getting out of tight corners quite difficult.
For a big garden with large, open expanses this tiller is fine for an experienced user with good upper-body strength. For the smaller garden, it is difficult to use and can sometimes be dangerous. The crash bar in front isn't there for looks.

Troy-Bilt 21A-643B066 Bronco 208cc Rear Tine Tiller Review

Troy-Bilt 21A-643B066 Bronco 208cc Rear Tine Tiller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just got this machine. Well, I got one close to this. I was planning on ordering this one from Amazon but found a clearance priced unit at Lowes with a 6HP OHV engine for a lower price and I was able to take it home right away (No shipping and waiting)
Got it home and it started right up. Extremely pleased with its performance. It tore right through my grassed in areas where I am starting a garden and flower beds. I was amazed at how quickly and how good of a job the tiller did on the soil. I dug out a 30' x 15' garden and over 100' of flower beds in just a few hours with no problems. The soil is ready for planting.
A few things, it is not as easy as the ads show. it is hard work to wrestle this (or any other tiller) around whilst digging. You will get a workout and if you are lacking upper body strength, you might find it to be too much. You might also consider the model with a reverse gear for added maneuverability. The rear tine design is miles ahead of using a front tine model however. This was a pleasure compared to a front tine.
A few specifics to this machine...
You have to pull a pin and slide the wheels on the axle shaft and reinsert the pin to engage the gear drive. Not the hardest thing to do but something to be aware of. The machine is very slow to transport unless you leave the wheels disengaged, shut off the engine and just push it. Also, if you chose to use the engine to transport the machine to where you are working, the tines will rotate as the wheels move. There is no way to have the unit propel itself without the tines spinning.
All in all, its more than I was hoping for. I was considering a Mantis 4 stroke but for less money, I was able to buy the correct machine as I would have been expecting way too much from a smaller tiller. Dollar for dollar, I couldn't be more pleased with the performance.

V&B Mfg Co Handy Mattock Tiller - 36" Handle Review

VandB Mfg Co Handy Mattock Tiller - 36 Handle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A well-made tool for battling serious weeds!
The 3 long tines can be easily driven into the soil at the base of the offending plant; the long handle provides leverage to rip it out. Then, when you've got a pile of debris, the tines provide a handy rake to clean it all up.
I've used it on big clumps of perennial grasses, on patches of Bermuda grass, on invading blackberries, on French broom, and lots of other things.
The mattock end is well-sharpened, great for precision whacking of things like dandelion, Picris, dock and other small weeds.

Poulan Pro PP2000T Cultivator Trimmer Attachment Review

Poulan Pro PP2000T Cultivator Trimmer Attachment
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Poulan cultivator / tiller that I purchased from Amazon worked great for a few hours, but then it broke in two places 1) down low where the shaft connects into the cultivator AND 2) much worse than this, when it failed, it stripped out the shaft ABOVE the click-link connector; in the top half of the unit (the piece that you dont get when you purchase the cultivator / tiller) into which this cultivator / tiller attaches. So while my engine still worked, NONE of my attachments worked as the receptical into which each connects was stripped by the cultivator / tiller attachment. Needless to say, I was VERY VERY unhappy. While Amazon refunded the money for the Poulan cultivator / tiller, they did not pay to fix the stripped shaft, and I was left to pay to have that replaced myself, a really big hassle.
In my opinion (I am not an engineer) it seems like the hard work begin done by the cultivator / tiller puts far too much tension into the small spinning rod inside the shaft of the entire unit. Tilling dirt causes a much greater resistance than edging, trimming, or blowing. I am surprised that more folks haven't experienced or reported this issue.

The tiller tines were a good quality material at a good price. However, while installing them, discovered one was missing. Factory Reconditioned Expand-It ZR15521 Tiller Attachment for String Trimmers Review

Factory Reconditioned Expand-It ZR15521 Tiller Attachment for String Trimmers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am going to write this review to cover several items, and just duplicate it to all the items involved. The items are the reconditioned Ryobi 30 cc straight shaft tiller, the Expand-It Tiller attachment, the Expand-It Edger attachment. The stars and titles, though are for the item it is attached to.
The Expand-It attachments are made by Homelite. I'm not a Homelite fan, but why this was apparently avoided in the descriptions is beyond me. This having been said, they appear to be at least as capable as their more-famous competitor brands.
Factory Reconditioned Ryobi 18-Inch 30cc 1 HP Gas Powered Striaght Shaft String Trimmer (Non-CARB Compliant) #ZR30002
Factory-Reconditioned Expand-It Tiller Attachment for String Trimmers #ZR15521
Factory Reconditioned Expand-It Edger Attachment For String Trimmers #ZR15518
The Ryobi reconditioned power unit for these units is more than adequate for all the tasks involved. Using the straight shaft Ryobi power unit, though can be a little tough. "Reconditioned" means some surface imperfections. I could see no sign of the power plant itself ever having been used. I opened the gas tank and sniffed inside, and could detect no smell of gas, so I believe this was purchased and returned unused or possibly was a display model. Regardless, I believe I got a new unit for a less than new price. You may or may not be as lucky.
The handle that comes with the Ryobi mounts with zero friction surfaces. The wingnuts used to tighten the handle go on a smooth metal bracket that attaches to a smooth plastic backer, around a smooth, painted metal shaft. I added some shelf-liner (the rubber, non-stick type) inside the bracket, then really cranked down on the wingnuts, which helped the situation with the edger and trimmer. More on the cultivator, later.
The power plant started easily by following the instructions. It uses a 50:7 gas:oil mixture, so make sure you have the proper fuel on hand. I primed it seven times by pushing the rubber bulb, pulled the handle two or three times in the full choke position, put the choke to the half-choke position, pulled two more times, and it started. All that I've mentioned to this point is in the instructions. What follows is my own advice: You need to hold the "run trigger" to make it start easily, but this causes the attachment to start rotating immediately, so you then must quickly release the trigger. It takes a slight bit of coordination, but it is easier than starting it without holding the trigger.
The edger works very well. Our yard has apparently never been truly edged. The previous owners were of the "good enough" variety, and probably rarely cut the lawn, much less edged it. The current lawn crew only uses a string trimmer to give an edged appearance. The Expand-It edger tore into the soil easily and left a neat line. I've not finished all of the edging yet, but it appears to work well, and I anticipate no problems.
The String trimmer worked well-enough for the first few feet. I was sent the wrong cut-off attachment, but Amazon was phenomenal in their response. I sent an email around 10:00 pm the night I received the unit with the curved-shaft cut-off/guard unit instead of the straight-shaft line cutter-guard. When I woke up, the reply from Amazon was in my email, and a replacement for the incorrect unit had been shipped by that evening, which was a Saturday. I expect to receive it within two days, which is three days after the original unit arrived. All in all, I didn't buy the unit for the trimmer, anyway, but for the few feet I could do without new line, it worked quite well. I don't expect any problems with the new cut off unit or the trimmer.
The cultivator is NOT for the weak of arm or back. I am over 6 feet tall, fairly athletic, and weigh over 200 pounds. I worked some virgin soil, hard-packed, with roots and rocks. I did about 8 feet by 25 or 30 feet in two to three hours. The cultivator requires a LOT of muscle. If you hit a small rock, it will just toss it forward. Large rocks require stopping and removal, which is to be expected. Smaller tree roots are cut right through, but larger roots cause the unit to buck upward with a lot of force. It is easiest to work the unit down into the soil by pulling it toward you as you push down. There is not enough weight in the cultivator to be of much help. All in all, I'd prefer more weight to help me push down on the working end, even if it means the unit is harder to get into position to use it.
There is no good place to put the handle to use the cultivator. Even with my added friction pad (rubber shelf liner), the handle continued to twist around, only to be re-adjusted several times. It works better with the shelf liner, but still doesn't stand up to the work required. I was using this unit probably to the extent it can be expected to work, so this was really more of a minor inconvenience. I was typically stopping to catch my breath anyway, and re-adjusting the handle was just one of the things I could do while catching a quick rest. You'll need to stop fairly often unless you're some kind of tri-athlete.
I hit a rock that got wedged between the tines and the guard. This caused the unit to lock up. Once I freed up the rock by literally breaking it out with a hammer, the unit went right back into operation none the worse for the wear. I find this torque-overload-shutdown to be very worthwhile. The power plant continued to operate. I do not know if the power plant or the cultivator is responsible for the shutdown, but since no damage was done to either unit, I was quite happy with both of them.
Changing attachments is done by hand, and takes literally less than a minute. About the only thing you could possibly do wrong is force the unit into place without the small square drive-shaft lining up. As this free-wheels easily, just slipping the unit back an inch or two and re-inserting it is all you need to do to re-align the new attachment. Then you hand-tighten and you're on your way.
Pros: Power plant, edger, tiller, and trimmer do the job well. Holds up well, and has plenty of power. Multiple tools for the price of a single unit is a real plus.
Cons: Handle needs some kind of friction increasing device (splines, pads, etc.). Cultivator/tiller is too light, requiring you to use arm strength to get it to bite better into hard soil. There is no good place to put the handle for balance for all types of units.

I couldn't decide between the Black and Decker cultivator and this one... I actually needed two... one for me and one for my "hired hand. This, too, was "perfect tool for those of you who need to weed/ cultivate small tight areas of the garden and spare the bending over that so often causes back pain. A great product at a great price... with great results. You can't go wrong with either, but if you pressed me into choosing one, I think I liked the Black and Decker better for being a bit more ergonomic and overall design.
