Earthway 6500W High Wheel Garden Cultivator with 24-Inch Steel Wheel and Wood Handle Review

(More customer reviews)I read in a number of places after I got this tool that there are better wheel hoes available. Elliot Coleman for one recommends one that fits the description of the Glaser Wheel Hoe exactly. First of all because of the way the tools mount on this one it does an inefficient job of transfering the energy to the soil. The tools that come with it are very light weight and the range of tools available isn't as great as with other manufacturers. This is more of a replica of an antique although it gets some basic jobs done. The fact that it doesn't have any of the improvements made in tools like this from other manufacturers mean that you have to do a lot of things twice or more to get the job done. I got the wood handled version which I was glad of because it is stronger and heavier. The handles unfortunately were completely raw wood so I had to buy some primer just to feel good about taking this out for the first time. Some of the hardware used to attach tools was weak and bent the first time it was used and the instructions how to assemble the tool were useless. The box was ripped when I got it because the packaging is shoody and I felt lucky that some of the small part bags didn't get lost during shipping. The wheel axle is just a piece of pipe that runs on a piece of round stock. Since that fitting is rather sloppy it makes it easier for the wheel hoe to not track as straight as it might and cause several course corrections when doing a pass down a row.
The fact that this is the only wheel hoe available on Amazon.com is unfortunate. I thought I was getting a great deal when I used a $50 Amazon gift card to get this tool and now I am thinking I only got what I personally paid for. I am able to do most of what I wanted to do with this tool but wouldn't recommend it to someone looking for a wheel hoe.

(More customer reviews)I have used my Pony Troybilt for 2 years now and I am very dissapointed. The quality of this machine is very sad.It starts fine and tills in a straight line just fine. But welds in several places have cracked with only moderate use and the battery did not even last for one season. It is a single speed machine w/ a very cumbersome reverse knob and it becomes quite difficult to get it turned around. The ergonomics are lousy now. You will need plenty of flat, level space to make turns and good upper body strength. I had a larger Troybilt tiller many years ago and it was great, but now I think after the company was bought out, they are just living off the old reputation and it is very over priced for the quality of the product.

Stens 370-350 Tiller Tine Set For Troy Bilt Horse & Pony 1901118 Review

(More customer reviews)The tine set was shipped directly and quickly (~3 days) from Stens. The tines are the three hole variety and seem (?) to be of good quality. Each of the provided bolts (32 total) is, however, about 1/4" shorter than the original bolts and is too short to be used with a lock washer. I chose to install the new tines using the old, original bolts. Although this is not functionally a really big deal because the original bolts show little wear, I expected somewhat better control of quality. New tines dramatically improve the perfomance of a ten year old tiller, and overall I am satisfied with this purchase.

Mantis 7250-15-02 3-Speed Electric Tiller/Cultivator with Border Edger and Kickstand Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Mantis based on the reviews of the model without the kickstand (that one had nearly 40 reviews at the time but cost $100 more). You have to watch the prices on these as Amazon constantly changes the price (put one in your cart and the price will likely chage from day to day or week to week). From what I tell the one offered here with a kickstand and the one without are the same (except this one includes the kickstand...a nice bonus).
I'm using the Mantis to till an area where I had an above ground pool. I am well pleased that this thing performs better than I could have hoped for. At first it bounces until it gets it's teeth into the ground then it just eats down to about 9 inches pulverizing the soil and the bit of sand I couldn't remove. It chitters on rocks but the tines seem no worse for the rock contact. I've learned when it's hitting a rock and sort of let it work around the sides of the rock. Sometimes it just kicks the rock behind it.
I should mention this thing makes almost no noise. You can easily work at dawn without waking neighbors. It was also easy to put together; however, the kickstand was a bit of pain to install as the bolts are hard to get to (the main body is in the way).
I give this 5 HUGE stars. I love this thing.

We weren't familiar with the Atom brand as it's an Aussie import but the website provided a lot of information. The Honda motor is small but turns the tines very well. Digs better than I ever expected. Leaves the ground like powder. My husband likes to run it backwards! Says it digs even better.
I was very skeptical of buying this type of tiller and waited a few months to write a review to see if we liked it. I have found myself quite happily surprised with this purchase. I would recommend for small gardens and for someone unable to use those big heavy tillers.

This attachment does a wonderful job of cutting a border between your lawn and landscaping. I also use it to make that "first cut" on the lawn edging to dig out the dirt that accumulates over the winter so I can use my trimmer to edge the yard. The blade does not spin fast enough to actually cut grass/weeds in your lawn edging along sidewalks etc...

(More customer reviews)I have used these mini tillers for years in my garden. I have found that working with moist heavy red clay soil the soil will stick to the typical garden hoe or shovel. That will wear you out fast. Anyone who has worked with clay soil knows what I mean. Each time you dig in the soil, the clay soil sticks to your tools. So every time you lift your garden tool, you are picking up a heavy amount of clay soil attached to the hoe or shovel that will not come off unless you scrape it off. Then I discovered these mini tillers. Less clay soil sticks to them, so I can work longer. I suppose less soil sticks to them because of the smaller surface area compared to a shovel or hoe. For whatever reason, I find these tillers easier to work with. Plus, I can work the soil more precisely when working among existing plantings I want to keep. I have also used them for trenching for drain pipe or irrigation lines. So, after working in clay soil with lots of rocks for 30 years, I can vouch for these as a necessary tool for me. I have never worn one out. I lost my last one in the bushes somewhere, so I needed to replace it. I bought the plain Mini Tiller and this Mini tiller with the foam handle to compare them to each other. They are both excellent. My wife loves this tiller with the foam handle. It feels more secure because of the grip on the handle. I have to admit it also feels more comfortable to hold and work with for long periods. The tiller without the foam handle can feel a little slippery sometimes especially when it is wet unless you firmly grasp it. But, the tiller without the foam handle is a little easier to clean because the entire handle is bare wood and the sticky clay soil washes off. It also washes off this tiller with the foam handle but it can stain the handle a little. So, if you are particular about your tools looking pristine, that may be a problem.However, the soil washes out of the foam handle and the foam remains soft and comfortable to hold. Because it is more comfortable to hold, I consider this tiller the "top of the line" luxury model. I highly recommend it.

(More customer reviews)We just received this attachment yesterday and have put it to good use already. Working on a 1 acre lot, with lots of problem areas, these attachments worked great. We only have the Mantis tiller about 6 months and love it. The attachments were easy to put on. The thatcher amazed us with how much it pulled up, without damaging the good grass. The aerator, seems more like a slit seeder, did a nice job . This is the first time we did this on our lawn, so we will see how it looks in a couple of weeks after the new grass we planted comes in. We thought it cut a little deep, so we just worked it to keep it at a depth we preferred. Since our lawn will be an ongoing project, we thought the purchase would allow us to work on our schedule without having to rent expensive equipment, then rush to return it. We ordered on a Wednesdy night and received the package on Friday. Since Mantis offered free shipping, we ordered directly from them. We received the same price that Amazon had.
